It’s been two days since India registered a historic triumph in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, and I am sure, just like me, most of the Indians must have slept peacefully. It still feels surreal given India won from an unrealistic situation South Africa needed a run-a-ball 30 with dangerous Klaasen and Miller at the crease. From there, the trio of Bumrah, Hardik, and Arshdeep won it for India – simply surreal.
While we are still in Post World Cup hangover, the Indian team is already geared up for the next assignment, the T20 series vs Zimbabwe. The young Indian team (most of the senior players being rested) will be touring Zimbabwe for a 5-match T20 series from July 6. The team looks like an extended version of IPL 2024 key players with Shubman Gill at the helm.
It’s a great opportunity for Shubman Gill to stamp his authority as the captain of the Indian team. India vs Zimbabwe 2024 Full New Squad and Players List
Batters – Rinku Singh, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill (c) & Yashasvi Jaiswal
Starting with the batters, Team India have four names in the squad in the form of Rinku Singh, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Of the four batters, only Yashasvi Jaiswal is a part of the current T20 team, and the other three batters along with Jaiswal will be beginning a new chapter after the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
WKs – Dhruv Jurel & Sanju Samson
Talking about wicket-keepers, the Indian team will see a new name, Dhruv Jurel in the absence of India’s first-choice wicket-keeper, Rishabh Pant. Dhruv had already made his debut for India in Test matches. And with Pant not there, he seems a good choice in the team alongside Sanju Samson, who will now play a more senior role.
All-rounders – Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Shivam Dube & Washington Sundar
Coming to all-rounders, India lost Nitish Reddy even before the tournament had begun. Nitish has suffered an injury just before the tournament, and in his place, India added back Shivam Dube, who was initially rested in the team. Alongside Dube, India also selected Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, and Washington Sundar as the three all-rounders in the team.
Bowlers – Avesh Khan, Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, Ravi Bishnoi & Tushar Deshpande
Talking about the bowlers, It looks like a completely revamped attack with Avesh Khan, Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, and Tushar Deshpande in the pace department, and Ravi Bishnoi in the spin department. While Mukesh and Bishnoi do have good experience in the Indian team, Avesh, Khaleel, and Tushar are relatively new, and will be tested in the team.

Talking about India’s best playing 11, we should see Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal as openers. Middle-order should mostly see Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson, and Shivam Dube. Whereas the finishing duties shall rely on Rinku Singh and Washington Sundar. For the bowling, India should select Avesh Khan, Ravi Bishnoi, Mukesh Kumar, and Khaleel Ahmed.
